Notting Hill 1999

Very much an equivalent to Four Weddings and a Funeral. If you liked that, you’ll like Notting Hill. Julia Roberts plays her least challenging role yet: herself. But she was born for it. Hugh Grant plays his typical wry bumbling English self much as he did in 4 Weddings. I don’t know what it is, but his jokes just seem funnier with the English accent. The roommate was a scene stealer and gives some needed comic relief as the boy gets girl, loses girl, gets girl, loses girl, etc. Well written, well acted, and well executed. The only flaw being there isn’t much new here other than the Julia Roberts character and how that affects the relationship. Also I suppose it’s hard to accept that two people so in love could keep walking away from each other. Still, it’s the date movie of the year.
