The Good Girl

My girlfriend really wanted to go to this one. All she knew was that it was a comedy with Jennifer Aniston. But really it's a dark comedy, shot in the indie style. The plot revolves around Aniston who plays the bored wife of a couch potato and working at a Walmart-type store. She finds herself somewhat attracted to a younger cashier named Holden who reads Catcher in the Rye and is an aspiring writer. From there it becomes a tale of "Oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive."

There are about six characters in the movie and they are all pretty entertaining in their white trash sort of way. Aniston does a good job of making her character seem like a normal person though she's way too much of a big star to seem like anything other than Jennifer Aniston. The plot rolls along predictably but everything is done well so it doesn't seem trite. The characters are interesting enough that it doesn't seem tired.

This certainly isn't a lite summer romance but it isn't the dark and tragic movie that it could have been either. Instead it has a dark plotline, but blonde highlights that will keep you laughing (well, smiling at least). Kind of similar to Nurse Betty. It's worth seeing. I'll give it a B.
