Sweet Home Alabama 2002

I liked this better than Legally Blonde but this is essentially the same kind of movie. It is almost mechanical as it works its way through the standard plot devices to finally get where it is going. About half-way through it starts to get somewhat more interesting. The funny parts were all in the commercials leaving that much less that seems new. Reese Witherspoon is good in her role and despite horrible clothes that must have been designed by the writer, director, or Reese herself (someone with enough “hand” to push through horrible taste) is so cute she’s hard not to like. Her ex, played by a Matthew McConoughey clone, has more depth than anyone in the film but mostly because he never says anything.

My girlfriend was quite happy with it and I think the fairy tale aspect of the movie gave it a lot of appeal for her. I enjoyed the movie but don’t see any reason to ever see it again. And no doubt Witherspoon will come up with a carbon copy for next summer so I won’t really have to.
