Enchanted

In Enchanted, a classic animated princess is cursed by an evil stepmother and appears in a very real New York. It's like the Wizard of Oz in reverse and makes for a great setup. Crucial to this working is getting the princess right, and Amy Adams does a great job of capturing the relentless cheerfulness and fluid movements of a fairy tale princess. The prince is a little weak (as princes often are) and Susan Sarandon's evil stepmother is just too far over the top.

This isn't anything like a great movie and is mostly a by-the-numbers fish out of water (fish always end up in New York) tale, but it is fun to see New York get the Disney treatment. And the songs aren't too bad either: though they are derivative of other Disney movies, because this is a Disney movie they actually got Alan Menken (who wrote just about all of the modern Disney songs along with lyrics by others) to write these (3 of them eventually nominated for Oscars).

So despite the predicatable plot, this movie is still well worth watching. B+.
