Madagascar 3 2012

B+

I like the Madagascar movies a lot, but I wasn’t sure that going to Europe was going to work. Even after watching it for a while as they are chased by an unstoppable sadistic female animal control officer, I was thinking the movie had lost its touch. And I do think the movie gets bogged down in its own plot more than in the past, while at the same time dramatically increasing the number of characters as the zoo animals meet up with a bunch of circus animals. I don’t think it’s quite as clever as the past ones, but there is certainly a lot going on, and the penguins and King Julien are still there, which can never hurt. The resolution, as the animals try to get back to New York, is executed quite well. I think maybe if I could watch it again and just worry about the funny parts and not how it will turn out, I could enjoy it more, but this is still a good movie despite the bloat.
