Avengers: Age of Ultron 2015

A-

While there is nothing wrong with a good superhero movie, Avengers has a challenge because there are a number of good characters all with widely varying abilities. Not only do they need to give them each something vital to do, but while some are able to destroy a building, others are only able to fight well, shoot guns, or maybe just arrows.

The last movie had the Avengers still getting used to one another before they had to fight a bunch of aliens. In this movie, they are dealing with a different sort of enemy, and part of that enemy is themselves. This is a little more interesting though still not exactly a psychological thriller. There is time to further develop the characters and we see a little bit of squabbling among the Avengers. There are still plenty of big action scenes and fights with amazing collateral damage. It is all kind of fluff, but it keeps your interest throughout a fairly long running time. Some of the stuff is still silly like how they are nearly unable to destroy a robot, but when faced with thousands of copies of that robot, they mow them down like daisies. And it is kind of painful to watch someone with no real superpowers try to keep up with a speeding truck.

Avengers 2 is a classic summer blockbuster, but it is still a very good example, just as good as the first, and maybe even a little better.

UPDATE: I bought the Blu-ray and watched again in 2019 and while Ultron is one of the least popular Marvel movies today, I still feel like this is a solid addition to the series with more realistic issues than most of the movies.
