Ex Machina 2015

A-

I knew very little about this movie before buying the Blu-ray for $4 on Black Friday. It is a classic sci-fi flick, about a guy who visits a tech billionaire who has built a robot that seems to have true artificial intelligence. The whole movie has a very cool look, taking place in the billionaire’s remote home, and the robot herself is also very cool with a beautiful human face, pleasant shape, and a see-through abdomen with lights inside. I won’t explain any further than that, but the movie works quite well, though you can nitpick a few things, especially towards the end. It is fun listening to a discussion of whether human can build a better human, how you know, and what the implications might be. The acting performances are all very different and very good. I think the only problem is that it is a little slow, but patience is rewarded here. Well, that and it is pretty geeky science fiction, geared towards guys, and my problem with the ending. But I still enjoyed it, so it gets an A-.
