A Civil Action 1999

B

A good movie that shows how the law really works in all its glory and shame. Travolta is good as a greedy lawyer who makes the mistake of having a heart and trying to apply morals to a legal question. I guess the book or screenplay was written by the character Travolta plays which gives you a lot of insight into the case and makes everything much more real, but in the end you need a little more neutral interpretation. The lawyer makes some major mistakes that are not adequately pointed out or maybe were left out of the movie as minor details. In the end this is less a good vs. evil tale than one about how the system works and good and evil have very little to do with any of it. I think that’s why they needed to show how small details can turn a whole case.

This is a good movie, but I think the lack of a resolution leaves you feeling a little cheated in the end.

I give it a B.
