Cast Away 2000

B-

A good movie, but the reviewers gave away the whole movie. There were essentially no surprises for me. I don’t know why critics insist on doing this.

But it is still fun to watch Tom Hanks deal with his situation. A challenging piece of acting in some ways because he has to get his thoughts across without really talking to anyone (well, okay, the volleyball). But the director makes everything pretty obvious through his camera work. At times I felt like I was being hit over the head with it.

There’s not much else to say about this. The parts filmed "back home" don’t have much to do with the movie. He’s a Fed Ex executive who plays everything by the minute to make a delivery, but they don’t do a good job of showing how that fits in with him while he’s stranded. It’s funny and endearing to see Hanks like this, but I don’t much see the point.

Enjoyable to watch and a good performance, but ultimately a little empty. How ‘bout a B-
