Spy Game 2001
This movie got decent reviews and seemed interesting with a good cast, so I picked it out using a Screen Pass. It seems like Robert Redford has made a number of spy movies and I didn’t remember having seen it. It is an enjoyable enough movie, but there are some major plot elements I wasn’t crazy about. I will cover some of it in a spoiler so I don’t give away the whole plot, but a lot of it revolves around CIA black ops people with morals, which seems kind of a stretch since killing people just isn’t that moral in the first place. The movie takes place in 1991, but then flashes back to Vietnam. That seems like pretty ancient history (at least 15 years) and yet Redford and Pitt look about the same. There are some neat scenes and elements, but it doesn’t seem that realistic or well thought out. I did enjoy one scene where Redford suggests that once they finish this job they try a new place, maybe Argentina, a (possibly unintentional) call out to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I enjoyed the movie, but it does seem a little empty.
