Layer Cake 2004
I didn’t know anything about this movie, but it got good reviews, so I borrowed it with a Screen Pass. It is a stylish British gangster film starring a pre-Bond Daniel Craig as a reluctant drug dealer looking to retire. It doesn’t always make sense and it is already hard to make sense of the British accents. Still, it has some good characters and a reasonably complex story about a stolen shipment of drugs. Daniel Craig does a great job with his part and there are some other actors that are fun to watch. Ultimately there are probably too many characters and a weak and unnecessary romance. It is still entertaining, but doesn’t really rise above the very crowded field of flashy gangster movies, so I can’t give it more than a B+.
