The Bourne Ultimatum 2007
I own all three Bourne movies on DVD. I never got around to seeing this one at the theaters and asked for it for Christmas hoping it would be good. It still took me two months to getting around to watching it. I guess I was afraid that it would be more of the same from the first two movies but with more shaky cam (which I’d heard was very annoying in this one). My fears were pretty much realized as this is almost exactly the same movie as the first two except without as much plot.
There is something to be said for the style of this series. They use real locations (practically a travel movie) and real stunts with a minimum of explosions and computer-generated effects. They aren’t being highbrow, as there are still plenty of car chases, fist fights, etc. All of that is suitably awe-inspiring and will keep your pulse rate up. However there needs to be a plot. In previous movies, Jason Bourne remembers some important things from his past. This time he is remembering the day he volunteered for the assignment. Maybe next time he will remember his favorite sled from childhood. Matt Damon said if they make a fourth installment it should be called The Bourne Redundancy. They’re close to already being there. Still this movie is enjoyable and the cartoonishly evil CIA bureacrats overstepping their constitutional authority seems reasonable only because the country is being run by cartoonishly evil bureacrats.
