Ghost Town 2008
This is a cute, surprisingly conventional romantic comedy. Borrowing from The Sixth Sense, Ricky Gervais can see and talk to dead people who have issues on earth before they can rest in peace. Gervais is great as the jerk he plays in the beginning but also wins you over with a great sense of humor as he starts to become likable. His ability to rattle off scathing mutterings is just fantastic. Tea Leoni and Greg Kinnear are also good making me wonder why Tea Leoni doesn’t get more roles (she was good in a similar role in Family Man). There are some good scenes with the dead people, doctors, and a large dog as well. It is more cute than hilarious, but really funny movies just aren’t that easy to find. A-
