Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2009
After Dish Network made Starz free for a year, this was the first movie I watched. I remember hearing decent reviews, but nothing special. And that’s this movie. The main character isn’t just a charming loser like John Candy would have played, but pretty much pathetic. I don’t think they needed to make him quite as big a loser as they did. Even at the end after confronting some bad guys, they still have him wimp out in one key scene. Since the comedy mostly comes at his expense, it can just seem like making fun of someone because they are fat or have a number of other problems.
Still, it moves along fairly well and Paul Blart winds up doing some pretty heroic things in some creative ways, so it is fun to watch. Afer watching it and seeing the other things available on Starz, I realized that this free year of Starz was going to be a chance to see a lot of bad movies for free. I’d be disappointed paying for this one.
