Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox 2013
I used a Screen Pass to see another entry from the DC Animated Movie Universe, this being the first of sixteen movies in that series. I admit I don’t know that much about the DC universe and very little about The Flash. This movie centers on the The Flash who is caught in an apocalyptic parallel universe where the Justice League never came together and they aren’t even nice people. Instead Aquaman is fighting Wonder Woman in a massive war that threatens to extinguish all life on the planet. The writers can have a lot of fun in a parallel universe, so a lot of superheroes get killed and Wonder Woman kills a guy named Steve Trevor. So there is a lot of fighting going on (PG-13 violence, but it gets pretty gory). There are also a ton of villains and superheroes, many of whom I don’t know anything about. It is a little tiresome at times, but combined with the fairly short runtime of these movies at about 75 minutes, they pack a lot in. The voice cast is also good with some name or at least somewhat familiar actors. I feel like some of the violence towards the superheroes is over the top, done more to show what they can get away with than anything. There is some development for The Flash, plus an alternate universe Batman, with some nice payoffs. I will give it a low B+.
