Iron Man 3 2013

A-

After seeing the first and really liking it and then liking the second, but not as much, I’m not sure why I didn’t go see Iron Man 3. I wound up buying a discounted digital copy through Redbox after seeing it got better reviews than the second. I’m glad I got to see it.

I like that it leaves behind a lot of the Marvel story arc as well as the boring defense contractor and government stuff and just focuses on one bad guy (or so). To me this is where the franchise needs to go instead of bigger and more involved Marvel universe stuff. I liked seeing Tony Stark have to do stuff without the iron suit, but also introducing a lot of advances to the suit and a number of prototypes. Plus there is some relationship stuff with Pepper that makes this seem settled into a series. In the end, there is a big crazy action sequence, but at least it isn’t just one after the other. A couple of heavy hitting actors, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley, get major roles. Pearce is a good actor, but I’m not sure supervillain is a good fit for him. Kingsley is pretty good because he is good at pretty much everything. It’s not a real intellectual movie, but it does have a few twists and turns.
