Shaun the Sheep Movie 2015
I am a big fan of Wallace and Gromit (really mostly of “The Wrong Trousers,” the first one I saw), but never watched the Shaun the Sheep series. I got to watch Shaun the Sheep Movie as a free rental, and wound up skipping about a third of it, so this review doesn’t count 100%. I watched the first third to half of the movie and then caught the end. While I was watching, I noticed a few things that were quietly clever, but in general it was just kind of boring. To match the original televised series, nobody speaks in the movie, but while this may work in a 7-minute short, it seems too heavy a burden for a feature length movie. While Gromit never talked either, it was always fun to hear Wallace. Instead this movie only has odd vocalizations which make it seem like a bad European cartoon from the early days of Nickelodeon. Also I think the sheep kind of look alike and without voices it is that much harder to tell the difference or for their personalities to come out. So despite the occasional glimmer of brilliance, I stopped watching and then came back to see how it turned out. In the closing credits was another really funny gag, but I don’t feel the need to go back and watch the whole thing.
