The Creator 2023
I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie. It got decent, but not great reviews, but very sci-fi, so I still wanted to see it. It is fun to watch, a big sci-fi chase and shoot 'em up movie. You don't want to think too hard about any of it though. There is a neat future world of people and robots, most of it taking place in various places in Asia. After a bad experience, the United States feels like A.I. and people who support them are basically terrorists. It feels very much like a James Cameron movie, which is generally a positive thing. But it also feels very familiar, which isn't so great. I try not to nitpick sci-fi movies, but there were a lot of things going on in this world that didn't make a lot of sense or don't really hold up to any scrutiny. Once I got out of the movie and started mulling some of that, the movie diminished some. It is a cool movie to look at, with some neat concepts and production design. Allison Janney is a fun, tough-as-nails Army colonel, which is a little surprising, but maybe not if you watched I, Tonya. It is also kind of a mess, with a little bit of a generic plot, not particularly well fleshed out.
