Dream Scenario 2023
This movie was under the radar for me, but I looked it up when I saw it was playing nearby, and decided to go based on good reviews. It reminds me a lot of Being John Malkovich in its absurd psychological proposition. This time a bunch of people start having dreams that feature Nicolas Cage's character, even if they don't know him and have never seen him before. This makes him a sort of viral celebrity. I had no idea what the movie was about beforehand, so that is all I will say about the plot. It explores a guy's 15 minutes of fame, but also how fame can be a burden. Cage's character is a frumpy, prickly college professor who doesn't want the spotlight. It is such a unique concept and it is fun to see what path it takes. While the movie seems to be using his fame as some kind of metaphor, it isn't necessarily spelled out, which can be frustrating if you are looking for some meaning. It gives you something to think about at any rate, but it does fizzle out a little towards the end. If you like offbeat movies with a dark sense of humor, it is definitely worth watching. I really enjoyed it.
