Deadpool and Wolverine 2024
I've liked the last two Deadpool movies, but never saw any X-Men or Wolverine movies. Deadpool movies are almost parodies of Marvel movies, more intent on humor than on plot and this movie is no exception. There almost isn't a plot. It involves multiverse stuff and the Time Variance Authority from the series Loki, which I also enjoyed. I don't like the multiverse because it takes away all of the stakes and allows anything to happen. Still, it works well enough here. Deadpool plays a great buddy to Wolverine, especially this version of Wolverine. So there is a lot of humor there as they initially don't like each other and then start fighting a bunch of other people. The violence is very R rated and so are the obscene jokes. Then there are a bunch of 4th wall jokes as Deadpool references Disney's takeover of Fox Studios. It usually works and even when it doesn't, you don't wait long for something else. I enjoyed it, but I did think it was a little over the top on violence, the plot and ending were weak, and the whole thing of regenerative superheroes fighting doesn't make much sense because they always get better. Still, it is worth it just for the mindless action, jokes, fan service, and cameos. Stay through the end credits for a pretty funny final scene.
