Touch 2024
I had not heard of this movie, but got a free pass from Focus Features, the artsy subsidiary of Universal. The movie is from Iceland with dialogue in Icelandic, Japanese, and more English than I thought there would be. It centers on a romance in London in 1970 between an Icelandic college student and a Japanese woman. It is told mostly in flashback from around March 2020 as Covid is shutting everything down and this now old former student goes looking for his lost love. I don't want to give away any more than I have already. The movie is intentionally a little slow, taking some time to reveal details of the romance and history of the characters as well as telling the present day story. I don't know that it is earth shattering, but the romance is sweet and there are some interesting historic details thrown in, with some neat perspectives from the international characters and time periods.
