Toy Story 5 2026

A-

Toy Story got Pixar really going with a bang and it is still one of, if not the best of their movies. Now we are up to the fifth entry in that series (not couning Lightyear) and it has gotten more challenging since Woody sort of wandered off in Toy Story 4. Instead this movie focuses more on Jessie the cowgirl who is voiced wonderfully by Joan Cusack, but who just isn't as entertaining a character. A lot of this movie also focuses on Bonnie, the new owner of the toys since Toy Story 3. She is a little bit of a wet blanket, but she is just a kid, so maybe she gets a break. The big conflict here is technology, screens, and devices putting toys out of business. Again, not necessarily easy to write, but the writing comes through and tells a good story with some solid messages, and Woody comes back from exile. Plus some new toys. There was one implausible plot twist towards the end, but it was fun. If you like the series, there is no reason not to like this chapter of the series, but people who love the series may not like the updates. I thought it was good. I don't feel like it took the big swings about life that Toy Story 4 took and this existential crisis isn't as severe as in Toy Story 3 though it could have been. Not as great as Toy Story at its best, but still a solid entry in the series.
