Jurassic Park 1993
I remember really liking Jurassic Park when it came out, but the sequels got lackluster reviews, so I never saw the other movies in the series. Last year I bought the Blu-ray, figuring it is a quality movie and glad it came with a digital copy. I wondered how well such an early CGI movie would hold up and honestly it isn’t too bad. I don’t know if they redid any of the dinosaur stuff for the Blu-ray, but it still looks great. Spielberg used a blend of technologies including animatronic dinosaurs, CGI, and stop motion animation.
While the dinosaurs are good (not great), the cast is incredibly strong. Jeff Goldblum is great in a fairly small role with such a rich character. I had forgotten Samuel L. Jackson was even in it. Wayne Knight is great as the selfish traitor. The story moves really well, and the action and suspense are handled masterfully by Steven Spielberg. There are so many great scenes, not just the ones everyone remembers, but stuff like the car slowly falling out of the tree and practically chasing the people to the ground. The velociraptors are perfect villains, so smart and dangerous as they work together.
