Mission: Impossible 1996
This movie made a big splash when it came out and many scenes from the movie are now iconic. The sequels started a little rough but eventually got bigger and better, making this an incredibly successful franchise. I have seen some of the later episodes, but not the early ones. It is neat to see Tom Cruise still (actually) young, along with a very solid cast. I wanted to see this one since the latest installment has a character returning from this film. It is funny seeing how they portray the internet at this point and computers in general. But the caper spycraft stuff is still fun to see. Some of it is definitely over the top, especially towards the end, but overall it is a fun movie well paced by tense action scenes interspersed with intrigue. I felt like some scenes were a little clunky, especially an early meeting of Jim Phelps' team to go over their latest impossible mission. So not everything works for me, but it is a fun ride and also great to see the roots of this franchise.
