Pulp Fiction 1994

A

I saw this movie at the theaters and then bought it on DVD. It has such amazing writing. My friends are constantly quoting this movie and we even printed out a copy of the script so we could get the lines right, or at least as close as possible, skipping all the n- and f-words. When I got a Blu-ray player, this was one of the first movies I bought, primarily to avoid the sins of the DVD which was pan and scan, cutting off a lot of the picture to fit a 4:3 standard TV screen. Then, somehow, I never got around to watching the Blu-ray. I bought it in 2011 and it was 2017 before I took it out of the shrinkwrap and watched it. While I still enjoy the writing, one of the other hallmarks of the movie, and really any Quentin Tarnatino movie, is the tension, and when you know what is going to happen, the movie loses quite a bit. There are still some great performances by an amazing cast, but you start noticing some of the big acting going on and how the dialogue doesn’t always work that well with every character. It’s still a great movie and there is no way to recapture suspense once you know what is going to happen (or more importantly not going to happen), but it was a little disappointing.
