Bounce 2000

B+

A simple but emotional romance starring Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow. I won’t give away too much but here’s the setup: Gwyneth is widowed by an airline accident. And Ben Affleck is the reluctantly vulnerable alcoholic (recovering) ad executive who switched tickets with Gwyneth’s husband in an attempt to do something nice. So he is torn up with emotions at having narrowly missed death plus the guilt of having swapped with a guy who would still be alive. In an effort to “make amends” (part of the Alcoholics Anonymous steps) he reaches out to Gwyneth to make sure she is doing okay, but then they fall in love. Basically all of that’s in the commercials and is covered in the first 30 minutes or so.

Well, that’s about it. If it sounds good, go see it. This is a good romance movie and has a lot emotion in it. It is well done and Affleck and Paltrow play their roles well (though they’re not exactly eat up with chemistry; Paltrow always seems distant). It isn’t real deep, but it’s nice. Let the wife/girlfirend drag you to this one so you can see 6 Days.

This movie would warrant a B, but good acting brings it up to a B+.
