Monster House 2006

B

I remember this movie getting good reviews when it came out and I always wanted to see it, but never got the chance. Eventually I bought the blu-ray when I had a gift certificate I needed to use and it was close to Halloween, so why not? Having no idea what to expect, I was immediately appalled by the animation of people in the movie. I didn’t realize it was done using the same process as Polar Express where live action performances by the actors were digitized (originally in 3D). I got more used to it eventually, but it is a little creepy. The story, characters, and action are still pretty good, with a lot of stars voicing the adult roles and some lesser known child actors playing the three main kids. The movie centers around a house across the street that has unusual powers. The movie is fairly short at only 90 minutes and moves pretty quickly as the kids have growing suspicions about the house and then eventually get more involved. It is a little scarier than a Disney movie, so not for the littlest kids, but still an enjoyable movie.
