The Hangover 2009
I had heard good things about this bachelor-party-in-Vegas movie, but was in no hurry to see it at the theaters. This is definitely a crude party movie, but it also has some good performances and surprisingly good storytelling. It is very clever how things are revealed and resolved in this movie: this isn’t one of those movies where pot-smoking buddies throw together a bunch of improvised scenes and call it a movie. Instead there is a real plot with a lot of unknowns and surprises along the way. There are a lot of gags and physical humor as well and in sufficient quantities that seeing the commercials for the movie won’t give all the funny parts away. It doesn’t all work, but more than enough of it does. It is better to know as little as possible about the movie going in (except that you do not want to take your mother to see it) and I won’t reveal anything. A-.
