Moon 2009
I remember hearing good things about this movie when it came out, but I never got around to seeing it. It seems like it was the first movie where Sam Rockwell had a lead role. I was able to borrow it using a Screen Pass. It is a neat movie, set on the moon, as Sam Rockwell’s character nears the end of a 3-year contract of solitary work at a mining station. I had no idea what else the movie was about, which is perfect for this movie. Ultimately the premise is revealed and worked out, but it seemed like it kind of dragged in the second half after you sort of knew which way it was going. It is still neat to watch, but that second half takes it down a little. Rockwell is very good in this, essentially the only character. Given that it is sci-fi, I‘m not sure why certain things happen the way they do, but I can forgive a little of that. A few science things bothered me, like a full earth shown in the sky when the sun was coming from the side (should only see half or so), plus the base is supposedly on the far side of the moon, so they shouldn’t have been able to see the earth in the first place. Now that countries are talking about going back to the moon again, this makes for a pretty neat premise.
