The American 2010

B

I don’t remember hearing much about this movie, but it came out ten years ago. I was able to get it at Dollar Tree, one of the few movies in those sales that gets decent reviews. It feels much more like a movie from the 70’s and the lack of action and intrigue, while a welcome change in some ways, means modern audiences will not be as appreciative. If this movie about an aging assassin had come out in 1973, it might be legendary. I think that was intentional in many ways. Shot mostly in Italy, it overtly references Sergio Leone, and feels a little like one of his movies. It is certainly a pretty movie to watch, in rugged Italian landscapes, and ancient towns, with an attractive cast. This movie is enjoyable, but you must be patient, and you still can’t expect that much from it.
