Get Him to the Greek 2010

I enjoyed Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Russell Brand did a good job with his crazy rock star character. This sequel focuses on Brand along with Jonah Hill, who is maybe the same character, now working for a music company and assigned to bring Brand to New York and L.A. for a comeback concert. So, instead of taking the rom-com element that worked in Sarah Marshall, it is mostly a road trip party movie as Hill tries and usually fails to reign in Brand’s character. It might work as stoner comedy, but it is mostly boring and by the numbers, with a few bad/funny songs by Brand. Though Judd Apatow didn’t write or direct the movie, it still has that feel of a movie that relies a little too much on the actors just naturally being hilarious, rather than writing it. Sean Combs does a nice job playing a funny version of himself that works well for the most part. Some stuff just seems thrown in for no real reason, like Brand’s relationships with his parents. It feels thrown together, and while it is still easy to watch, it isn’t that rewarding.
