Let's Be Cops 2014

B-

This movie got terrible reviews, with just a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes (30 on Metacritc). The Blu-ray wound up at Dollar Tree and despite the bad reviews some people online were saying it was pretty good and were picking up copies of it at their local store for the customary dollar. I usually try to avoid anything that doesn’t get at least a 60 on Metacritic, which is worth 75-80 on Rotten Tomatoes, but sometimes a Blu-ray case breaks, so these very cheap movies can be worth it just for the replacement case. As a bonus it came with a digital copy, which I redeemed right away. For some reason that digital copy upgraded itself to 4K, maybe because it is from Fox and I redeemed the code at iTunes. Then, months later, I got a 4K Roku, so I wanted to see if I could watch in 4K (also dependent on the wi-fi connection). The premise of the movie is pretty funny as two guys in LA who are down on their luck go to a costume party dressed as cops and notice the world treats them a lot better when they think they are policemen. So one of the guys really gets into it and the other guy tries to talk him out of it and ends up going along. It isn’t a great movie and it can be pretty repetitive as the one guy is gung ho and the other one says “I hate you” and goes along with it. But it’s not a bad setup either as these guys push the limits of their new superpower. I laughed a few times and thought the movie was generally pretty entertaining. I switched between watching it in HD and 4K and the 4K was definitely better even though I don’t think it uses HDR.
