Logan Lucky 2017

B-

I didn’t watch this movie when it came out, but it got some decent reviews. I think maybe I remember some horrible accents by Adam Driver and Daniel Craig and thinking it looked terrible. Generally that is correct. The accents in this movie are just terrible, like an SNL skit, laid on thick I guess for laughs, but it never seems genuine. Ultimately it is a heist movie and even makes a self-reference to “Oceans 7-11,” tying in another Soderbergh movie. But this is a heist movie without any suave or smart characters, except they are always smart when necessary. It just feels like the director and the actors didn’t know how to present the characters. A little effort is made fleshing them out, but it is a weak effort at best, just giving you sort of a generic background story so they can say they had one. The heist doesn’t make a huge amount of sense, but is very complex and has some really clever and fun elements, though don’t think too much about any of it. Channing Tatum is the main star, but isn’t a great actor and his part doesn’t seem like a lead. Craig, in a supporting role, is more interesting and has some charm along with some nice moments, while Driver is more of a cartoon character. Then they throw in some extra characters for no real reason, but it is already a pretty big cast. It just didn’t really work for me even though it is still fun enough to watch.
