Leave No Trace 2018

B+

I knew very little about this movie going in except that it was about a father with PTSD and his daughter living in the woods. I did not realize it was directed by the same woman who did Winter’s Bone, but as I watched I was definitely thinking of that movie. Like the earlier one, it is mostly just a character study, but if anything, this movie has even less of a plot. While things aren’t that happy, this movie isn’t as dark, but I think that darkness gave Winter’s Bone more of an edge. This is still a good movie, albeit quite slow, but it is a good portrait of a guy with PTSD and a person (the daughter) who lives with that and tries to help him out. I don’t want to watch a lot of movies this slow or sombre, but every now and then is great and this one is very well made with some very good acting by the two main characters.
