Nobody 2021

B

After three John Wick movies, I got burned out on crazy, comic violence, so I was hesitant to watch Nobody despite decent reviews and a central role by Bob Odenkirk, who is so great as Saul. I wound up with a free Redbox rental, so I figured it might be worth a shot. All I knew about the movie was that an everyday guy gets beat up a lot and eventually goes to town on the bad guys. It was nice watching some unexpected things happen. There are some neat ideas presented, but there really isn’t much of a plot. Like John Wick the plot just connects a bunch of big fight scenes. The fight scenes are most of the movie. There is a similar sick kind of humor at work, maybe not as over the top as Wick. The extras on the blu-ray show that Bob Odenkirk came up with the idea and found the right collaborators and then really threw himself into training so he could look believable, even in his late fifties, just two years older than Keanu Reeves. Ultimately the movie is pretty forgettable, just a mostly well executed action movie. By the end things get pretty ridiculous and I was glad it was about over. Worth watching if you like this kind of thing. I will give it a B, but towards the higher end of that.
