The Bob's Burgers Movie 2022
I have never watched a single episode of the animated series Bob’s Burgers, and was not planning on seeing this movie. But it got surprisingly good reviews, so I changed my mind. It has a cheap animation look and it was a little odd that two of the main female characters obviously have men’s voices. Animated movies usually have some big names in the voice cast, but the main cast are not big names, though the extended cast has some big names. An early song is surprisingly catchy and some of the humor sneaks up on you. Still, it is more amusing than it is really funny, though I think maybe a repeat viewing or a history of watching the show would help. Most everyone in the family seems very anxious, which can work for humor, but also feels a little uncomfortable. It reminds me a lot of King of the Hill in that it is occasionally really funny, but mostly just an easy to watch story about family life. The show recently finished its twelfth season, so it probably didn’t need to have a movie anymore than The Simpsons did, but by doing a good job, they did get me to watch. It is a fun flick, but not outstanding.
