Glass Onion 2022

B+

I enjoyed Knives Out when it came out in 2019. It was kind of a classic detective movie, with Daniel Craig using an absurd southern accent, but it was fun, with a good mystery and characters. This movie kind of turns the genre inside out, with a billionaire sending out invitations to some of his famous friends to come to his Greek island to help him solve the mystery of his murder. The cast is very good, so rich that some big names just get tiny cameos. However, everything is laid on a little thick, and the mystery is so hidden that there ends up being more explanation than there are clues or plot. There is a lot of deception and misdirection, which is completely crazy. It is still fun and always entertaining, but I think a good mystery should challenge viewers to solve it themselves instead of just leaving them completely in the dark most of the time. There are a few clues you might pick up on, but I don’t think they would lead anywhere. Still, pay attention. It is a talented cast, so performances are generally good, though again, a little over the top.
