See How They Run 2022

C+

The reviews for this movie weren’t good, but weren’t terrible either. They were actually better than Death on the Nile which I thought was good, so I decided to see it. This movie attempts to satirize Agatha Christie movies while at the same time trying to be one. But the satire isn’t that sharp or clever and the mystery isn’t particularly good either. The cast is led by Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell, who could can do fine work, but the writing and directing fail to support what could have been a decent movie. It is easy enough to sit through and moves quickly, with a running time of only 98 minutes, but feels like they cut the investigation short. There are some flashes of decent writing, but nothing that holds together or that can carry the movie. It is not as funny as it needs to be: neither hilarious with outsized performances or subtly clever. The supporting cast is mostly lacking, with Adrian Brody setting the bar high early on and then nobody else able to match him.
