Forrest Gump 1994

A

I remember seeing Forrest Gump the first time and never thinking that was just Tom Hanks with a silly accent. He just perfectly embodied this character. I bought the movie on DVD and just recently on Blu-ray, the 25th anniversary edition. It isn’t necessarily one of the great movies of all time, but it is very easy to watch, with one memorable scene after another as Forrest walks through pop history. Watching again it is still as fun and touching as ever, kind of a comfort movie. It has some kind of dark edges that don’t necessarily suit the material that well (Lieutenant Dan) and it is frustrating to watch Jenny make one bad choice after another, breaking Gump’s heart. But even with the dark moments, a light moment is never far off and the movie maintains a nice balance. The soundtrack of contemporary hits puts you instantly in each of many different moments and years. I can understand why some may not care for the movie, but for me it is always fun to watch.
