Hocus Pocus 1993
Halloween is approaching and Disney always promotes Hocus Pocus like it is an amazing movie. This year they even released a sequel. I knew the movie wasn’t supposed to be very good, but that some people watched it as a tradition and now it has a somewhat legitimate following. It is a pretty bad movie, but it is also harmless enough. One problem is that much of the plot depends on two high school students and a little girl. The girl is played by Thora Birch who is one of the few known actors in the movie other than the witches, but she is given some unnatural dialogue and/or she can’t really act yet. The high school students aren’t that good either. Much of the humor is clunky and the special effects are weak. However it still moves along fairly well and has a decent plot, though it still feels like something from The Wonderful World of Disney. It probably met my expectations, which were low, but I did make it all the way through the movie in only two nights.
