Miracle on 34th Street 1947

A

Though I had seen bits and pieces of this movie, I had never seen the whole thing until going to the Fox Theater to see it as part of a Christmas show. I expected it to be sweet and dated, but was surprised that it was actually a very good movie with strong characters, great dialogue, and a good story that doesn’t require you to suspend belief at all.

Parts of it have been used over and over again and the ending was a little disappointing (finding happiness in the suburbs). Overall, however, things kept moving along nicely. I liked the different phases of the story as it goes from enjoying this great Santa character, blooming romance, and then a courtroom drama with political intrigue. Throw in an excellent performance by Natalie Wood as a child and it really works.
