Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: The Flash 2018

B

This movie showed up at Dollar Tree, and even though it was really cheap, I still passed on it, but when I went back to check on re-stocks it was still there so I got it. It gets decent reviews for a direct-to-video movie, but I wasn’t that crazy about The Lego Batman Movie. In fact, after the first Lego movie they really dropped off. But for a dollar, why not? I have also been watching some of DC’s direct-to-video (non-Lego) animated movies, which get pretty good reviews, but I think aren’t being judged on the same point scale as theatrical releases. I thought I might stop reviewing direct to video movies, but after a few days I changed my mind, so here goes.

This movie opens with The Flash being well liked by the public but some of the Justice League members find him a little annoying and unreliable (I guess because he is pretty young, but Batman is always kind of cranky). He soon gets caught in a time loop that makes him repeat his day and an imposter Flash takes his place. Because it is from Lego, it has some irreverent humor and plays more like a cartoon than a real superhero action movie. It still has some decent action and the plot can be compelling. Batman, not voiced by Will Arnett, is still pretty funny, but not like in the other two movies. Flash gets a decent, albeit pretty simple, story arc that lets him develop some. I may still be unconsciously using a more generous scale, but this was a decent enough movie.
