Everything Everywhere All at Once 2022

B+

I knew very little about this movie except that it was weird, had martial arts, was violent, and had a multiverse and has been getting great reviews. It also has a family drama aspect to it, which I didn’t know about. It feels a lot like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, but with a little Turning Red thrown in too regarding the family story. It gets so out there with the multiverse stuff that you just have to let go and enjoy the ride, even though there is so much being thrown in your face that not all of it works that well. I can see how some people would think it is just amazingly original and full of imagination, but it also has a hard time making its own paradoxes work and is frequently just silly. It is definitely worth watching, but the metaphysical themes that start playing a bigger part towards the end seem a little too simplified after exploring what seems like so much complexity. I still liked that aspect too, so the movie still gets a positive rating (like 96% of Rotten Tomatoes reviewers), but I can’t quite give it an A.
